Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 40-year-old man, Kingsley Ugochukwu, and his wife for unlawful possession of firearms during a targeted raid in Asaba.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the couple was apprehended at a food canteen suspected to be a hideout for cultists. During the operation, officers recovered multiple firearms in a sequence of discoveries that began with the husband.

“The suspect, on sighting the police, quickly disposed of a locally fabricated Beretta pistol which was later recovered by the operatives,” Edafe said.

He noted that during a preliminary investigation, Ugochukwu made a suspicious phone call to his wife, prompting officers to broaden their search.

“It was later revealed that the suspect ordered his wife to check his bedroom and dispose of another long-range single-barrel gun in an uncompleted building,” Edafe added.

Following this lead, the suspect’s wife was arrested. Her confession subsequently led to the recovery of the additional firearm.

The Police Command has assured that further investigation is ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the weapons, as well as any possible affiliations with criminal networks.
