In a major push to modernize public service and improve efficiency, the Enugu State Government has completed the third batch of its Mandatory Civil Servants Digital Literacy Training Program, training over 5,000 civil servants and more than 10,000 teachers across the state.
The program, spearheaded by the Enugu SME Center and the Office of Digital Economy under the leadership of Mr. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, was hosted at the Enugu State College of Education and Technology (ESCET) and the Human Resources Development Centre (HRC).
The initiative aligns with Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s vision of transforming governance through technology and innovation. Participants were trained in essential digital tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data analysis, and cloud-based collaboration platforms—skills that are now mandatory for civil service promotion.
“Before this training, I had never used Excel. Now, I can confidently manage data and generate reports for my department,”
— Mrs. Amaka Ede, Administrative Officer, Ministry of Education
“This program is a game-changer. It has opened my eyes to new tools that make my work faster and more organized,”
— Mr. Chijioke Umeh, Human Resources Desk Officer, Ministry of Lands
“I’m grateful to His Excellency and the team behind this. Digital skills are no longer optional for us,”
— Mrs. Ifeoma Okoro, Principal Executive Officer, Ministry of Finance
The program underscores the administration’s commitment to building a digitally fluent, high-performing, and citizen-focused workforce. It represents a strategic investment in long-term productivity and public sector accountability.
“This is how we build the future. This is how we prove that Tomorrow is Here,” the organizers noted in a statement.
The Enugu State Government also extended its appreciation to its delivery partners—FCDO, Tech4Dev, Microsoft, Future Ready Academy Limited, and the Enugu SME Center team, with Ndubuisi Edeh as Team Lead for the Digital Literacy Training Program.
As digital literacy becomes a requirement for career advancement, Enugu is positioning itself as a national model for 21st-century governance and public sector reform.
