EMAT 2.0 Enugu
In a trailblazing move to position Nigeria at the forefront of Africa’s creative economy, Enugu State has officially launched Batch 2 of the Enugu Magic Labs Animation Training (EMAT) — a transformative initiative designed to equip young talents with elite animation and digital storytelling skills.

EMAT, which builds on the phenomenal success of the inaugural cohort, is a key element of Governor Dr. Peter Mbah’s digital transformation agenda, aimed at empowering youth, creating jobs, and embedding Enugu into the fast-growing global animation industry — currently valued at over $394 billion.

“We are not just training animators; we are building the creative workforce that will shape Africa’s digital storytelling future,” said Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Economy and MSMEs and Director General of the Enugu SME Center.

“EMAT is unlocking a world of possibilities for our youth—from global freelancing to studio work, and even starting their own animation ventures. We are proud of what we’ve achieved, and even more excited for what’s ahead.”

From Local Talents to Global Creators

The EMAT program, a collaboration between the Enugu SME Center and the globally recognized Magic Labs Studio, is designed to be more than just a training scheme — it is a direct pipeline into global digital opportunities across 2D/3D animation, motion graphics, and visual storytelling.

The inaugural cohort impressed with their remarkable growth, going from animation novices to confident digital artists. Following overwhelming demand, Batch 2 has been launched to train another 400+ young creatives, expanding Enugu’s pool of digital talent and solidifying its reputation as a rising creative hub in Africa.

What Makes EMAT 2.0 Different?

The program stands out for its accessibility and industry relevance:

  • Subsidized Tuition: Up to 80% of training costs are covered, making it inclusive for young people from diverse economic backgrounds.
  • World-Class Mentors: Trainers include veterans who have worked with Netflix, Disney, and top African studios.
  • Practical Focus: Emphasis is placed on real-world projects, portfolio development, and collaborative learning to ensure participants can transition directly into employment or entrepreneurship.

A Pillar of Digital Transformation

The EMAT initiative is a core element of Governor Dr. Peter Mbah’s digital transformation agenda, which aims to create high-value jobs, stimulate the tech and creative economy, and place Enugu on the map as a center for innovation.

Already, the first batch of EMAT graduates has impressed with their skill, creativity, and readiness to compete globally. The demand and enthusiasm from young people across the state led to the expansion of the program into this second phase.

Applications Now Open

Young creatives in Enugu who aspire to be part of Africa’s digital future are encouraged to apply for EMAT Batch 2. It’s more than a training opportunity—it’s a launchpad to global relevance.

“Enugu is not just catching up—we are setting the pace,” Chilo-Offiah added.
