Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the establishment of three new tertiary institutions in the South East region of Nigeria.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary and Spokesperson of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ezechi Chukwu, Ph.D, said the move would not only enhance research, knowledge, and healthcare but also create employment, reduce criminality, and attract wider development across the region and the country at large.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing into law the bills establishing three new tertiary institutions in the South East,” the group stated.

Ezechi also added that the PG of the Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, John Azuta-Mbata being a former Senator, praised the use of legislative tools to drive development in Alaigbo. He also applauded the National Assembly for championing the initiative.

In particular, Ohanaeze expressed deep appreciation to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who sponsored the bills for two of the institutions located in Bende, Abia State.

The group also thanked Senator Patrick Ndubueze, who sponsored the bill for the establishment of the Federal University in Okigwe, describing the effort as a “major milestone in both the political history and development of Okigwe in Imo State.”

The newly established institutions include:

  • Federal University Okigwe, Imo State
  • Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item, Bende, Abia State
  • Federal College of Education, Bende, Abia State.

  1. It’s very poor and myopic to site two high institutions in one state instead of spreading them across the geopolitical zone.
