…Anambra Police Take Over Scene

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed a deadly cult-related shooting that occurred in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area, on Wednesday night, resulting in two fatalities, the alleged abduction of two individuals, and the rescue of two others—including a woman currently hospitalized.

Police authorities disclosed that the incident took place at about 8:40 p.m. on June 19 at Total Junction and Tipper Junction in Oko, where armed assailants, operating with a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV without a license plate, opened fire indiscriminately.

According to eyewitness accounts, four people sustained gunshot injuries during the attack, while two others were reportedly abducted before the assailants fled the scene.

“Two victims, including a lady who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, were rescued,” the Anambra State Police Command said in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga. “Sadly, the incident recorded the death of two persons and the alleged abduction of two others.”

In a swift response, Police Operatives led by the Area Commander of Aguata, alongside members of a Joint Security Force—comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence, and local vigilantes—were deployed to secure the area and begin investigation.

SP Ikenga said the police are already acting on vital information provided by eyewitnesses to track down the perpetrators.

“The Command has sued for calm as operatives are already acting on some clues from the scene and leveraging on necessary information from some eyewitnesses for the possible arrest of the hoodlums,” he added.

He also assured the public that further updates would be communicated as investigations progress.

The police urged residents to remain calm and continue to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information to aid the ongoing operations.
