The Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, has flagged off a two-month free vocational training programme tagged “Tomorrow is Here” for over 100 residents of the local government.
The initiative, executed in partnership with Potter’s Will Foundation, officially began on Monday, June 17, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, with the aim of equipping participants with hands-on entrepreneurial skills to boost self-reliance and reduce unemployment.
Representing the chairman at the flag-off event, Mr. Justin Ekwueme, Special Assistant on New Media, commended the participants for turning out in large numbers. He reiterated that the current administration in Enugu North LGA remains committed to youth and women empowerment through consistent capacity-building programmes.
“This administration has done similar empowerment programmes before, and we will continue to do more in line with the youth and women empowerment roadmap of His Excellency, Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah,” Ekwueme stated.
He praised Governor Mbah’s vision for practical learning, saying, “We are proud of the kind of Governor we have in Enugu State. He is not waiting for people to depend on handouts. He is changing lives by making sure people have real skills they can use to make money. What he is doing with vocational learning is already showing results, and we are happy to support and replicate this vision here in Enugu North Local Government Area.”
Also speaking, the President of Potter’s Will Foundation, Mr. Godsown Onuzulike, announced that the training will cover more than 40 vocational skills, including baking and confectionery, natural beverages, hygienic products, skincare production, and other household crafts. He commended Dr. Onoh for supporting the programme and providing equipment and logistics to ensure its success.
Mr. Onuzulike further disclosed that participants would be empowered at the end of the training to establish their own businesses. “This initiative is a bold step in tackling unemployment and boosting small-scale businesses in Enugu North,” he said.
One of the trainees, Miss Chukwunaeche Chika, expressed appreciation to Dr. Onoh for the opportunity. “I am truly grateful for this chance to acquire skills for free. This training will help me become self-reliant, and I hope to be among those empowered at the end,” she said.
