President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over recent tragic incidents that have rocked different parts of Nigeria, including a suicide bombing in Borno, the lynching of wedding guests in Plateau, and a deadly explosion in Kano.
President Tinubu described the attacks as “unconscionable” and vowed that those responsible would be brought to justice.
“The bombing in Borno claimed the lives of innocent Nigerians and was a cruel attempt to spread fear,” President Tinubu said in a statement on Sunday. “I have directed the National Emergency Management Agency to provide urgent support to survivors, and I extend my deepest condolences to the Government and people of Borno State.”
President Tinubu also reacted strongly to the killing of 12 wedding guests in Plateau State, calling the act “barbaric” and ordering a full-scale investigation. “I have ordered the Nigerian Police Force to work with all relevant security and intelligence agencies to ensure that those responsible are swiftly apprehended and prosecuted,” he said. “These killings must not go unanswered.”
He urged the Plateau State Government to act decisively to end the cycle of violence and ensure the incident serves as a deterrent. Reaffirming the citizens’ constitutional rights, he added: “Freedom of movement is a non-negotiable right of every Nigerian, and we will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear.”
The President also sympathized with the victims of the Kano explosion, which occurred at a scrap metal facility and claimed five lives. He emphasized the importance of workplace safety, stating: “This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for stricter adherence to workplace safety protocols. I have directed the relevant agencies to investigate the cause and take appropriate actions to prevent a recurrence.”
President Tinubu concluded with a message of solidarity and resolve: “To the people of Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kaduna States, I stand with you in grief and resolve. We will not rest until justice is done and peace and safety are fully restored across our land.”
