U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday announced that Iran and Israel have agreed to a “complete and total” ceasefire, set to take effect within hours. The declaration comes in the wake of heightened tensions and a recent Iranian missile strike on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, which houses American troops.

“On the assumption that everything works as it should, which it will, I would like to congratulate both Countries, Israel and Iran, on having the Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence to end, what should be called, ‘THE 12 DAY WAR,’” Trump stated in a post on social media.

“This is a War that could have gone on for years, and destroyed the entire Middle East, but it didn’t, and never will! God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”

As of press time, neither Iran nor Israel has officially confirmed the ceasefire agreement.

Trump’s message implied that Iran would cease its attacks hours before Israel halts its military operations. However, many observers remain skeptical about the durability and authenticity of the ceasefire.

Middle East analyst Omar Rahman, speaking to Al Jazeera, said Trump’s statement left out critical details, including whether negotiations or a peace framework would follow the truce.

Rahman also expressed skepticism, citing past instances of what he called Trump’s “deception” in favor of Israel. He noted that Trump had pledged diplomatic restraint only hours before Israel launched its first strike on Iran.

Just last week, Trump announced he would decide within two weeks whether to join Israel’s war effort, but went on to authorize a strike on Iran two days later.

Rahman warned that the fragile deal could collapse, especially if Israel proceeds with a final offensive.

“If that’s the last operation, would that suddenly end the war? No, of course, not. So. I don’t know what’s in the cards,” he said, pointing to the risk of a major Israeli strike — potentially including the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei — derailing the truce altogether.

While the ceasefire announcement has stirred cautious hope, many questions remain unanswered, and the region watches anxiously to see whether peace will hold.
