Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the 2027 general elections will not be business as usual, as efforts are underway to form a strong opposition coalition aimed at rescuing and rebuilding Nigeria.

Atiku made this known on Monday while addressing a delegation of stakeholders from Kannywood and key opinion leaders from the North West, who paid him a courtesy visit.

“I told the visiting forum that the envisaged coalition is a deliberate effort to recover and rebuild Nigeria in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people,” Atiku said.

He disclosed that the opposition coalition being put together is not a joke and will soon be unveiled as a credible alternative to the current leadership.

Atiku said he was inspired by the revelation from stakeholders in the North West new media community, who are already mobilizing support for the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I was inspired by the revelation of the North West stakeholders in the new media industry that they are building a coalition ahead of 2027 to back the coalition of opposition political leaders,” he added.

The delegation was led by Dr. Aslam Aliyu, a prominent Zamfara politician and head of the PAA 2027, New Media & Digital Communications Forum, a coalition of digital media stakeholders including members of Kannywood, Zamfara TOP 10, and other influential grassroots groups.

According to Atiku, the forum informed him that its renewed commitment stems from a post-election review that revealed voter education gaps and the consequences of the 2023 election outcome.

Some members of the forum, who supported President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last election, expressed regret and pledged support for the emerging opposition alliance.

“Some members of the forum, who played roles in the election of the President Tinubu-led APC government, expressed deep regrets about foisting an incompetent and clueless leadership on Nigeria and expressed a commitment to back the ongoing coalition efforts of opposition leaders,” Atiku revealed.

He assured the delegation that 2027 will be different, and urged them to intensify public awareness and support for the rebuilding mission.

“I charged the forum to take its commitment seriously and enlighten the people on the need to embrace the ongoing efforts to recover and rebuild Nigeria for the good of the majority of its people,” he said.

Atiku also acknowledged the growing insecurity and economic hardship facing Nigerians and assured that the opposition coalition possesses both the individual and collective capacity to confront these challenges head-on.

“I am aware of the pervasive level of insecurity and other challenges citizens are facing on a daily basis. Suffice it to say that we, in the coalition, have the individual and collective capacity to tackle them headlong,” he concluded.
