The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two members of a notorious kidnapping and armed robbery gang in connection with a violent attack and abduction that took place in Umudioka, Dunukofia Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspects were apprehended in the early hours by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad.

The arrested suspects—23-year-old Onele Solomon, a.k.a “Federal,” and Simeon Chidera, a.k.a “Chaplet”—were allegedly involved in the May 31, 2025 kidnapping, armed robbery, and attempted murder of a man who narrowly escaped death.

According to SP Ikenga, “The two suspects and other members of their gang who are currently at large specialize in luring unsuspecting victims under the pretense of selling land.”

“The suspects abducted a victim on May 31, dispossessed him of his personal belongings, and inflicted life-threatening machete injuries on him,” the police spokesperson added. “They held him captive in one of their criminal hideouts while demanding ransom from his family and friends.”

In a twist of fate, the victim managed to escape from captivity and was promptly debriefed by police operatives, which provided crucial information that led to the arrest of the two gang members.

Following their confession, the Command has launched a full-scale operation to apprehend the remaining gang members and dismantle the syndicate.

“The Operatives have activated onslaught operations, following the confessions of the two suspects currently in custody,” SP Ikenga confirmed. “Our objective is to arrest all other gang members and bring an end to this criminal network terrorizing Umudioka and its environs.”

The Anambra State Police Command reassured residents of its continued commitment to ensuring safety and security across the state.
