The Federal University of Kashere, Gombe State, has announced its decision to confer an honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree on Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on South-East Development Commission.
This was disclosed in an official letter dated May 30, 2025, and signed by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Umaru A. Pate. According to the statement, the honorary doctorate is in recognition of Senator Kalu’s outstanding contributions to national development, entrepreneurial excellence, and his exemplary leadership across both public and private sectors in Nigeria.
“The University is particularly inspired by your commitment to visionary leadership, philanthropy, youth empowerment, and your unwavering dedication to public service as a Distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic,” the letter stated.
The conferment ceremony is scheduled to take place during the upcoming convocation of the University on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the Main Campus in Kashere, Gombe State.
On behalf of the University community, Professor Pate extended his congratulations to Senator Kalu, saying, “We are proud to associate with your exceptional personal and public service records and look forward to honouring you in person at the convocation.”
The formal programme for the convocation ceremony, according to the University, will be communicated in due course.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, a former Governor of Abia State, has long been celebrated for his role in national politics, youth development initiatives, and his contributions to Nigeria’s economic and legislative sectors.
