The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced that the 2026 governorship election in Ekiti State will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2026. The election will take place across the 16 local government areas of the state, with polling set to commence at 8:30 a.m. in all 2,445 designated polling units.
This disclosure was made in a public notice issued by the Commission, in accordance with Section 28 (1) & (2) of the Electoral Act, 2022.
INEC emphasized strict compliance with voting guidelines, reiterating that only duly registered voters whose names appear on the official Register of Voters and who possess a valid Permanent Voter Card (PVC) will be allowed to participate in the exercise.
“Only persons whose names appear on the register of voters and have valid Permanent Voter Card shall be allowed to vote. Voters shall only vote at polling units where they are registered,” the Commission stated.
The electoral body also reaffirmed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be deployed for the accreditation of voters, underscoring its commitment to transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
“No PVC, no voting,” INEC stressed in the statement, urging the public to adhere to the rules guiding the electoral process.
The Commission concluded by encouraging citizens to actively participate in the democratic process, stating:
“INEC — Making Your Vote Count… Consolidating Our Democracy.”
