Security operatives deployed to the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday barred members of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) from holding their scheduled meeting at the headquarters.

.At the time of filing this report, some BoT members were seen in small groups, discussing the development in hushed tones.

According to Daily Trust, the security operatives were acting on orders to ensure that no meeting took place at the party’s headquarters.

The operatives, who arrived in numbers, stormed the National Executive Committee (NEC) hall where the meeting was meant to hold and ordered those present to vacate the premises.

The newspaper added that a senior security officer instructing his subordinates to clear the area.

“Make sure nobody is in the hall there. That is the instruction. I heard there is another hall upstairs. Make sure nobody is meeting there,” the officer directed.

The PDP has been grappling with internal crisis since the conduct of its presidential primaries ahead of the 2023 general elections, with key party organs split into opposing factions.

The latest crisis centres on the dispute over who holds the position of National Secretary, with the acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, leading rival camps within the National Working Committee (NWC).
