The Enugu State Government has launched the second batch of the Enugu Magic Labs Animation Training (EMAT) programme, designed to equip over 400 young people with skills in 2D illustration and 3D motion design, as part of its drive to position youths for success in the global creative industry.

This initiative, championed by Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, builds on the success of the first batch of the EMAT programme, which was widely described as transformative for young creatives in the state.

“Animation is more than art—it’s a passport to the global creative economy,” the organisers said in a statement announcing the programme’s return. They noted that with the global animation industry now valued at over $394 billion, Africa—and Enugu in particular—must harness the potential of its young talents.

The EMAT programme is being implemented in partnership with Magic City Labs, a subsidiary of the globally renowned MagicLabs Studio. The training, led by seasoned industry experts, is aimed at producing talents who can compete on the world stage.

According to the organisers, alumni of the programme’s facilitators are already working with global brands such as Netflix, Disney, and leading African animation studios.

Importantly, the organisers revealed that the training is subsidised by up to 80 percent, a move aimed at making it accessible to a broad base of Enugu’s creative youths. “This is about ensuring access for all, not just a privileged few,” they stressed.

Animation, Enugu The programme is open exclusively to residents of Enugu State, and interested applicants are encouraged to apply via www.enugusme.en.gov.ng/emat.

“This is your moment to bring your story to life. Seize it,” the statement urged, reaffirming Governor Mbah’s commitment to youth empowerment and building a vibrant digital economy in the state.
