The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced an emergency change of venue for its Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting originally scheduled to hold at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, following the takeover of the complex by heavily armed police officers.
The development was confirmed in a notice shared across the party’s official social media platforms:
“Special Announcement!
Change of Venue for the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Meeting.
The Meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), earlier scheduled to hold by 10AM at the Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja has been moved to Yar’Adua Center, Central Business District, Abuja.
All BoT members are by this notice advised to proceed to the new venue.
Signed: Management.”
Earlier in the day, the PDP had raised alarm over the occupation of its Wadata Plaza headquarters by security operatives. The party also shared videos that appeared to show some staff and officials being manhandled by the security agents.
The takeover has added to the uncertainty surrounding the PDP’s anticipated 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, as deep divisions persist within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The faction loyal to acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, insists that the NEC meeting has been postponed. On the other hand, the camp loyal to Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, maintains that the meeting will proceed as scheduled.
Both camps have also announced overlapping meeting times for today: Damagum’s group fixed an expanded caucus meeting for 1 p.m., while Arapaja’s faction slated the NEC meeting for 2 p.m.
The crisis further deepened last week when the Damagum-led leadership announced the recall of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary—a move rejected by the opposing camp, which insists that Anyanwu’s status remains in contention.
