A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday at a brothel in the Cathedral area of Akure, Ondo State, where a sex worker (hooker) lost her life following a violent altercation with a customer over a refund.

According to reports, the dispute began when the male customer demanded a refund of N15,000, alleging dissatisfaction with the service after the woman complained of feeling weak during intercourse.

Eyewitnesses said the argument quickly escalated into a heated verbal and physical confrontation.

Despite the intervention of the brothel manager, the customer left the premises but returned shortly after with several men believed to be his associates, attempting to forcibly recover the money.

The brothel manager promptly alerted the police. A patrol team from the ‘A’ Division responded, arresting three suspects while others fled the scene.

During the scuffle, the sex worker’s condition deteriorated. She was first taken to a hospital in Lafe, and later to the police hospital in Akure, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, said: “Three suspects have been arrested in connection with her death. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend two additional suspects who are still at large.”

He added: “The names of those involved are being withheld pending further investigation. The victim’s body has been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.”

Olayinka further disclosed that Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for thorough investigation.

He assured the public:“Justice will be served. We urge anyone with useful information to assist the ongoing investigation.”
