The Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate in Anambra State, Sir Paul Chukwuma, alongside his running mate, Uzu Okagbue, is deepening political conversations and engagements across party lines as part of a growing grassroots campaign strategy aimed at challenging the long-standing dominance of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

With a campaign theme anchored on the slogan “Anambra Deserves Better” and the hopeful refrain “Joy is Coming,” the YPP duo has positioned their ticket as a credible alternative in the forthcoming November 8 Anambra State Governorship Election.

In a strategic outreach, the YPP deputy governorship candidate, Uzu Okagbue, held a meeting with former members of the Anambra State Executive Council who served under ex-Governor Peter Obi from 2006 to 2014. The meeting took place in Awka-Etiti, at the residence of Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, a key ally of Peter Obi and his former Chief of Staff.

Addressing the gathering, Okagbue emphasized the significance of leadership teams in achieving long-term success, stressing the unique role the former executive council members still play in shaping Anambra’s political direction.

“The success of a leader is tied to the leader’s team. This places an enormous responsibility on you, as former council members, to help rewrite the leadership trajectory of Anambra while you still can,” Okagbue stated.

He described the meeting as an “impactful engagement steeped in deep thought, clarity of vision, institutional memory, and shared commitment to Anambra’s progress.”

Notable participants at the meeting included Prof. Stella Okunna (former Commissioner for Information), Architect Callistus Ilozumba (former Commissioner for Works), Barr. Chukwuebuka Okoli-Akirika, and Dr. Ego Uzoezie, among others. They engaged Okagbue in detailed discussions, to which he responded with what attendees described as thoughtful and satisfactory answers.

Some of the attendees offered public commendation for the YPP ticket, describing the combination of Paul Chukwuma and Uzu Okagbue as a “solid team” capable of steering the state in the right direction.

Chief Uzodike cautioned political observers and opponents against underestimating the YPP, warning: “Anyone overlooking the YPP ticket does so at a huge political risk. This election is far from over.”

In another outreach effort, the YPP team visited Nze Chimezie Ikebuaso, a respected community leader in Ihiala Local Government Area, who pledged full support for the party. Expressing excitement over what he described as the “promise of viable leadership,” Nze Ikebuaso vowed to mobilize support for the YPP in Ihiala during the election.

These engagements signal a growing momentum for the YPP across Anambra’s political landscape, as the party continues to pitch itself as a transformative force capable of delivering governance with purpose and vision.
