In a major step toward workforce development and youth empowerment, the Enugu SME Center has concluded the elite selection process for its latest Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme and officially commenced hands-on training for a new cohort of beneficiaries.

Spearheaded by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Digital Economy and MSMEs, Hon. Arinze Chilo-Offiah, the initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA), and C-STEMP.

The programme focuses on Plumbing Installation & Maintenance and Painting & Decoration, equipping participants with practical, marketable skills.

Out of over 1,200 applicants, only 100 outstanding candidates were selected following a rigorous and competitive world-class screening process. With the launch of this new batch, the Enugu SME Center has now trained more than 700 youths in vocational skills in just 18 months.

“This programme is not just about skills; it’s about giving our youths the tools to thrive,” said Hon. Chilo-Offiah. “Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, we are bridging the unemployment gap, tackling poverty, and unlocking the full potential of Enugu’s youth.”

The four-month training is fully funded and offers participants hands-on learning from certified professionals, alongside business development support, career mentorship, and internationally recognized certifications—ensuring that graduates are industry-ready.

The TVET programme aligns with the broader vision of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who has prioritized human capital development as a key pillar of Enugu State’s economic strategy. His administration continues to invest in programmes that foster inclusive growth, sustainable employment, and long-term economic prosperity.

The Enugu SME Center has committed to keeping the public informed on the progress of the trainees and the long-term impact of the programme on local communities.
