Suspected armed bandits have abducted a Catholic priest, Pastor Sunday Musa, in a brazen early-morning attack on Samunaka village near Babanna in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Friday when about twenty armed men stormed the village, firing sporadically to instill fear before abducting the cleric.
“The attackers, numbering about twenty, stormed the village and began shooting sporadically before whisking the cleric away to an unknown destination,” Makama reported.
The Niger State Police Command said the incident was promptly reported by the Officer-in-Charge of the Babanna Police Outstation, who alerted tactical units and local vigilantes in the area.
“Efforts are currently ongoing to track the kidnappers and rescue the victim unhurt,” the police said in a statement. “Patrols have been intensified across vulnerable communities in the Babanna–Borgu axis.”
The abduction has sparked concern among residents of the community, with many calling for greater security presence to forestall future attacks. As of the time of this report, the whereabouts of Pastor Sunday Musa remain unknown.
