Days after the conclusion of the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil, the Nigerian presidency has yet to disclose the whereabouts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, raising questions and concerns about his current location.

President Tinubu was expected to travel from Saint Lucia to Brazil between July 6 and 7, 2025, for the BRICS summit, according to an official statement from the presidency. However, as of the time of filing this report, there has been no official announcement confirming his return to Nigeria or any onward travel to another country beyond Brazil.

The presidency’s original statement, issued prior to his departure, read in part:
“President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Saturday, June 28, 2025, on a two-nation visit to Saint Lucia and Brazil.”
“His first stop is Saint Lucia, where he will pay a state visit as part of efforts to deepen Nigeria’s engagement with Caribbean nations and strengthen South-South cooperation.”

The statement further detailed that, “At the end of the visit to the island state, President Tinubu will fly to Brazil to participate in the 17th Summit of BRICS in Rio de Janeiro.”

During his time in Saint Lucia, Tinubu was scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Governor-General Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles and Prime Minister Philip Pierre. A key highlight was his address to a special joint session of the Saint Lucian Senate and House of Assembly at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet.

However, more than a week after the BRICS summit wrapped up, there has been no update on whether Tinubu has returned to Nigeria or continued on another international engagement.

Efforts to confirm his location through the State House website proved futile, as no new press releases or photos of his arrival in Nigeria have been posted. Additionally, the official X (formerly Twitter) account of presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga offers no indication or update about Tinubu’s return.

This prolonged silence from the presidency has triggered speculation among citizens and observers, many of whom have taken to social media to question why there has been no transparency regarding the President’s movements.

As of now, the Nigerian government has not offered any clarification or response to mounting inquiries about the president’s whereabouts.
