The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has strongly condemned recent comments attributed to the Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, in which he reportedly claimed that “99.9% of crimes committed in the Southeast are perpetrated by local residents.”
In a press statement issued by Comrade Edeson Samuel, MASSOB’s National Director of Information, the group described the governor’s comments as “falsehoods and divisive rhetoric” aimed at securing a second tenure, warning that such tactics will not succeed.
“Falsehoods and divisive rhetoric will not bring about the support he seeks, nor will they address the realities faced by our communities,” the statement read.
MASSOB said Soludo’s remarks ignored the grave atrocities committed by Fulani terrorist herdsmen across the region. The group cited the killings at the Gariki Cow Market in Lokpa Nta, Umunneochi LGA of Abia State, where over two hundred innocent Igbo people were reportedly slaughtered.
“It is disheartening to witness Governor Soludo seemingly forgetting the continuous cycle of killings, kidnappings, rapes, and other crimes against Igbo people in Anambra State being perpetrated by the Hausa-Fulani,” MASSOB said.
MASSOB further alleged that parts of South East have “literally transformed into criminal havens by Hausa Fulani people where human parts are allegedly sold to ritualists.” Similar concerns were raised about Ugwuoba Market and Amansea in Awka, areas reportedly dominated by Hausa‑Fulani residents, where illicit activities linked to human parts were said to persist.
The group also accused Soludo of turning a blind eye to the activities of Fulani herdsmen terrorizing Mgbakwu, Igboariam, Umueri, Umunze, Ogbunka, and Amansea communities in Anambra State.
“Why is the governor covering up atrocities of these Fulani terrorist herdsmen in Igbo land and accusing the victims to be the terrorist?” the statement queried.
“The framing of victims as perpetrators is a shameful tactic and must cease.”
MASSOB also alleged that some of the insecurity in Anambra is fueled by “Governor Soludo’s political militant groups such as Ndi Aka Odo and Ndi Udo Ga Chi.”
The separatist group urged Governor Soludo to focus on genuine issues affecting the lives of Ndi Igbo instead of spreading divisive narratives.
“We call on Governor Soludo to reconsider his stance and focus on the pressing issues that genuinely affect the lives of Ndi Igbo,” MASSOB said.
“Such actions, which threaten to destroy the fabric of unity among the Igbo people, are both reckless and unacceptable.”
