Former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing what he described as the hijacking of the party by antidemocratic forces.

In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 4, Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area, Edo State, Momodu announced his decision to leave the party with immediate effect.

He declared his alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition party that has recently attracted several high-profile defections.

“I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect,” Momodu stated in the letter.

Explaining the reason for his departure, he said:
“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.

“It is therefore honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times.”

Momodu’s defection follows closely on the heels of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who confirmed on Wednesday that he had also left the PDP, effective Monday, July 14.

With his exit, Momodu joins a growing list of political heavyweights moving to the ADC, signaling a shifting landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
