Barr. Ugochukwu Ukwueze

On Thursday, July 17, 2025, the Executive Chairman of Igbo‑Eze South Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Ugo Ferdinand Ukwueze, officially flagged off the construction of the Unadu Farm Estate with the commencement of work on its access road—marking the first major step in building what is set to become an agricultural powerhouse in the region.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Hon. Ukwueze described the initiative as “a giant leap toward an agro‑economic revolution in Enugu State.”

The Unadu Farm Estate is part of 260 modern Smart Farms being established across all electoral wards of Enugu State under the visionary agro‑economy programme of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. The project is aimed at not only boosting food production but also positioning Enugu as a strong player in both local and international food markets.

Facilitated in collaboration with local government authorities, each Smart Farm Estate spans hundreds of hectares and is equipped with a minimum of two tractors, provided directly by the state government. Large‑scale storage facilities are also being introduced to preserve farm yields and ensure minimal post‑harvest loss.

The Unadu site is one of sixteen Farm Estates sited across Igbo-Eze South, making the LGA a key contributor to the broader goal of agricultural sustainability and economic diversification in the state.

Beyond local consumption, the state government has pledged to buy off the farm produce, with concrete plans already in motion to begin exports to international markets.

As bulldozers roared to life and dust rose along the access road, excitement filled the air. The event signaled that the journey toward a food‑secure and economically vibrant Enugu State is no longer just a vision—it is unfolding, ward by ward.
