The Executive Chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area, Barr. Ugochukwu Ukwueze, has reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment by sponsoring over 100 young people in intensive vocational and skills acquisition programmes at the Mario Institute of Hospitality Management and Entrepreneurship Education.

The initiative, which aligns with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s vision for sustainable development, was highlighted during Barr. Ukwueze’s visit to the institute.

His visit coincided with activities marking the World Youth Skills Day—celebrated globally on July 15—and also the 24th priestly ordination anniversary of the institute’s director, Rev. Fr. Cornelius Obe.

Speaking after touring the various training units, Barr. Ukwueze expressed satisfaction with the progress of the trainees.

“I was genuinely impressed by the remarkable progress demonstrated by the students within just one month of their enrolment. Their enthusiasm, discipline and commitment were evident through the impressive products they showcased,” he said.

The programme covers a wide range of skill sets, including shoemaking, fashion and design, furniture works, catering, cosmetology, and mobile phone repairs.

Barr. Ukwueze praised the Mario Institute’s management and facilitators for their professionalism and structured learning environment.

“I equally take great pride in our students, who have quickly become exemplary representatives of the potential that arises when opportunity meets preparation,” he added.

He assured that the empowerment programme would be sustained and expanded to benefit more youths in future batches.

“This programme will not end as a one-off endeavour. We are committed to sustaining and scaling it, ensuring that the young people of Igboeze South LGA have access to the tomorrow they envisage and desire,” Barr. Ukwueze said.

Reiterating his belief in human capital development, he stated:
“We are not just training hands, we are shaping futures.”

The event not only celebrated the trainees’ dedication but also underscored Igboeze South LGA’s ongoing drive to build a skilled, self-reliant and prosperous youth population.
