Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Prof. Steve Wordu, describing him as an erudite scholar whose contributions would have greatly enriched the organization’s intellectual initiatives.
Before his passing, Prof. Wordu was a Board of Trustees member-designate of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Professorial Endowment Chair, a body dedicated to the promotion of Igbo history, language, and culture.
In a condolence message, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, paid glowing tribute to the late professor, noting his remarkable support for the Rivers State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
“Prof. Wordu was a strong supporter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Rivers State Chapter,” Mbata said. “I have no doubt that the late erudite scholar could have obviously brought his baggage of deep intellectual experience to bear in the Ohanaeze Professorial Endowment Chair, if not for the cold hand of death. May God Almighty grant his lovely family and Ohanaeze Ndigbo Rivers State Chapter the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”
Prof. Wordu, a native of Choba in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, was a professor of Sociology at the University of Port Harcourt, where he specialized in Political Sociology and Governance Studies.
Ezechi Chukwu, Ph.D., National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, conveyed the organization’s official message of condolence, honoring the late professor’s legacy and unwavering commitment to intellectual development and cultural preservation.
