The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) did not conduct its primary election ahead of the forthcoming bye‑election to fill the vacant Ibadan North Federal Constituency seat.
INEC disclosed this in a letter cited by DAILY POST on Wednesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The APC was expected to hold its primary election over the weekend in preparation for the bye‑election scheduled to take place in August.
The bye‑election became necessary following the death of Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi, who represented the constituency for a second term before passing away at the age of 51 last year.
However, INEC in Oyo State reported that the APC failed to conduct the exercise despite prior notification.
According to the electoral body, repeated attempts to monitor the APC primary were unsuccessful.
In a letter dated 21st July 2025 and addressed to the Director of Election and Party Monitoring at INEC Headquarters in Abuja, the Acting Administrative Secretary in Oyo State, Rosemary Alaba Adeniyi, submitted a formal report on the situation.
An attached report, signed by Kehinde Omisile, the Acting Head of Department for Election and Party Monitoring (EPM) in Oyo State, categorically stated that all efforts by the Commission to monitor the primary election proved abortive.
The letter reads:
“All efforts to monitor the APC Primary Election as specified in another letter signed by the State Secretary and submitted on Sunday, 20 July, 2025, proved abortive.”
