Former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Emir of Gusau, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Bello, describing him as “a patriotic leader and a symbol of unity” whose reign promoted peace and stability in Zamfara State and beyond.
In a statement issued to journalists on Friday, Senator Kalu fondly recalled his recent encounter with the late monarch, who in June had honoured him with the traditional title of Jarumin Gusau (Warrior of Gusau) in recognition of his contributions to national unity and development.
Kalu noted that the death of the monarch is not just a loss to Zamfara but to the entire country. He commended the Emir’s humility and leadership style, which, he said, endeared him to Nigerians across religious, ethnic, and political divides.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau. He was a peaceful, visionary, and accommodating monarch who always placed the interest of his people above personal interest. Nigeria has lost a bridge‑builder,” Kalu said.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Zamfara State, the Gusau Emirate Council, and the family of the late royal father, urging them to find comfort in the enduring legacies of service, humility, and unity that the Emir left behind.
The late Emir of Gusau passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2025, in Abuja after a prolonged illness. He ascended the throne in 2015 and earned widespread respect for his fatherly guidance, particularly during periods of political and social tension.
