The Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) has begun issuing court summons to property owners and occupants who have defaulted on waste management fees for 2023, 2024, and 2025.
In a public statement on Friday, ESWAMA confirmed that the enforcement exercise is already underway and urged residents to act swiftly to avoid legal consequences.
“Once a court summons is pasted on your property, you are required to appear before the Environmental Protection Court sitting at the New Magistrate Court Complex, State Secretariat, Enugu on the assigned date,” the agency said.
It further cautioned:
“Failure to appear before the court is an offence punishable by imprisonment or fine, and enforcement will follow.”
Speaking to the media on the renewed drive to keep Enugu clean—contrasting with past administrations that allowed waste to pile up on roads and streets—Joshua Ozioko, Head of Public Relations at ESWAMA, emphasized the agency’s commitment:
“ESWAMA remains dedicated to ensuring that our streets and communities stay clean and hygienic, in line with the agency’s mission of enhancing public health and environmental sustainability.”
The agency also reminded residents who have yet to clear their bills to do so immediately by visiting https://enugu.teticket.ng/selfserve to check outstanding fees and make payment.
For further clarifications or assistance in resolving pending issues, residents can contact ESWAMA on 08135534440.
