Final Year Varsity Student Allegedly Murdered by Boyfriend
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a female final‑year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba‑Akoko (AAUA), allegedly murdered by her boyfriend.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the shocking details in a statement to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday.
“The victim was a final‑year student of AAUA. She was declared missing initially by her boss, who runs a POS business, after giving her the sum of N2 million to be delivered to someone,” Ayanlade said.
“The money was not deposited and the lady was not found, which was why the boss reported her missing.”
According to him, detectives tracking the victim’s phone traced it to her boyfriend’s residence.
“When the police got to her boyfriend’s house, his room was locked. They had to break the door and found her decomposing body inside his room,” he explained.
Ayanlade added that the boyfriend’s landlord and some others suspected to have aided the crime had been arrested, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
“I will not disclose the name of the murdered student for now, because it is a case of gender‑based violence,” he said.
The incident sparked protests by AAUA students, causing gridlock in the town. Ayanlade, however, confirmed that officers had addressed the students and restored calm.
Reacting to the tragedy, the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of AAUA, Mr. Akeem Salami, condemned what he described as the alarming trend of killings in the community.
“We received the first shocking news of two students that were gruesomely murdered, having been kidnapped for days,” Salami said.
“We were further bewildered with the news that the primary suspects of the crime are indigenes.”
He added that despite earlier efforts to ensure safety, the latest case came as a rude shock:
“To our greatest surprise, we were rudely confronted with another terrible news of another student that was murdered by her boyfriend, who also happened to be an indigene of the host community,” Salami lamented.
The SUG President revealed that the victim was stabbed to death and left to decompose in her boyfriend’s room for over three days.
Salami called on the state government, police, and relevant bodies to take decisive action:
“We appeal to the government and security agencies to stop the gruesome and incessant killings of students in this community.”
This tragic development comes barely two weeks after the abduction and killing of two other AAUA students — Andrel Okah (History and International Studies) and John Abba (Economics), both 200‑level students.
One of the arrested suspects in that earlier case, a landlord, reportedly died in police custody while investigations continued.
