A former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and ex-Minority Leader in the 10th Senate, Senator Biodun Olujimi, has officially dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Olujimi, who represented Ekiti South Senatorial District, formally joined the APC on Saturday at her Ward 7, Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti East Local Government Area, alongside several loyalists and political associates.
Explaining her decision, the former lawmaker said her defection followed extensive consultations across the South-West and beyond, describing it as a move toward “fresh alignment with progressive ideals and a new political direction.”
She also pointed to the achievements of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as a key factor in her decision, saying:
“My defection is a product of wider consultations with my loyalists, political associates, and critical stakeholders. I have been encouraged by the giant strides recorded by Governor Biodun Oyebanji and his policy of inclusivity. I have therefore decided to join in mobilising for the governor’s re-election bid.”
Olujimi was received into the APC by Kehinde Ajobiewe, the Commissioner for Transportation, who described her move as a significant boost for the party in Ekiti State.
“As a political juggernaut and community leader, she has contributed immensely to the development and growth of the community and the state in the last few years,” Ajobiewe said.
He praised her for acknowledging the governor’s performance, adding:
“Her resolve to join the APC will further strengthen the re-election bid of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who has performed creditably well in office.”
Olujimi’s defection marks a major political realignment in Ekiti politics as the APC positions itself ahead of the next election cycle.
