The lawmaker representing Ife Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Abimbola Ajilesoro, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ajilesoro aattributed his defection to persistent internal conflicts and ideological inconsistencies within the PDP.
He announced his switch on the floor of the House on Thursday, July 24, 2025. In a detailed statement released on Sunday, the Osun-born legislator accused the PDP of lacking a clear direction, especially in the state chapter.
“Consistency is the true foundation of trust. Either keep your promises or do not make them. The PDP leadership in Osun had made overtures toward aligning with the progressives, but internal narratives shifted along the way,” he said.
According to Ajilesoro, the PDP leadership in Osun initially explored a strategic alliance with the APC but abruptly abandoned the plan without any clear communication. This, he said, created confusion among members and eroded internal trust.
“As someone who believes in political loyalty and ideological alignment, I find it untenable to remain in a party that covertly supports the opposition while presenting a contradictory public stance,” he added.
Now firmly aligned with the ruling APC, the lawmaker pledged his full support to President Bola Tinubu and committed to advancing the party’s electoral success.
“Loyalty to one’s party and its leadership is non-negotiable in my political ideology. I have, therefore, chosen to align fully with the progressive camp and support the re-election of President Tinubu and all the APC candidates across the board,” he declared.
Ajilesoro’s resignation from the PDP was formalized in a letter dated July 22, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ilare Ward II in Ife Central Local Government Area, Osun State.
His defection marks another setback for the party as internal crises continue to cost the opposition party key members in the lead-up to the next election cycle.
