President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of the Pro-Chancellor, Governing Council members, and principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, in Rivers State.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that Prof. Don Mon Baridam, a South-South academic and former lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, will serve as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. He is a Professor of Management with a specialization in Organisational Behaviour.

Also appointed is Prof. Chinedu Mmom, another academic from the South-South region, as Vice-Chancellor. Mmom is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management, University of Port Harcourt, and a former Commissioner for Education in Rivers State.

The Governing Council comprises professionals from across Nigeria, including Mr. Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Mr. Hamid Adekunle (South West), Prof. Chima Oji (South East), and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North West).

In addition to the council, President Tinubu named key principal officers: Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas (South South) as Registrar, Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (North Central) as Bursar, and Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G. B. (South South) as University Librarian.

The Federal University of Environment and Technology, which was established by an Act signed into law by President Tinubu on February 3, 2025, is scheduled to admit its first set of students in September 2025.
