As political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify, a prominent sociopolitical group, Enugu State Patriots, has declared unwavering support for Governor Peter Mbah, endorsing him as the most viable political force in the state and calling for his continuation in office till 2031.
The group, comprising respected leaders from across political parties, professions, and community leadership structures, made this known in a communiqué presented after a lengthy meeting held on Sunday in Enugu. The meeting reviewed the state of governance in Enugu under Governor Mbah’s leadership over the past two years, especially in light of the shifting national political climate.
In the communiqué titled “Peter Mbah is Our Party”, read by Professor Mathine Anikwe, the group stated:
“We are happy to unequivocally state that Governor Mbah has shone like a million stars and established himself as a poster boy of people-oriented governance at the subnational level.”
They applauded the governor’s performance, citing over 2,000 completed and ongoing projects across all sectors and localities in the state.
“He has stamped his authority as a man who came prepared to the business of governance,” the communiqué emphasized.
Highlighting the growing bipartisan recognition of Mbah’s efforts, the group added:
“Importantly, even the President, the Vice President, and federal ministers, who are of a different party, have variously confessed the unprecedented massive achievements of Governor Mbah in just two years.”
While acknowledging Enugu’s historical loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 1998, the group stressed that citizens are now more invested in Mbah’s economic vision than partisan politics.
“The people of Enugu State are more interested in his vision to grow the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion in eight years, which is on course, than in political affiliations.”
They reiterated their commitment to follow Mbah’s political direction, declaring:
“With Governor Peter Mbah’s exceptional performance, he has become a viable political party of his own. He is the political party we know and wherever he leads, Ndi Enugu will follow.”
“Therefore, there is no doubt that his second term as Governor of Enugu State is sacrosanct, by God’s grace, in order to continue with the great job he is doing,” they added.
The group further noted that Enugu’s established zoning formula strengthens Mbah’s bid for reelection:
“Besides his superlative performance so far, his second tenure is further assured by the well-entrenched zoning arrangement in Enugu State that ensures that power rotates from one zone to the other every eight years.”
The communiqué traced the historical sequence of zoning:
“This arrangement produced Chimaroke Nnamani from Enugu East Senatorial Zone (1999 to 2007), Sullivan Chime from Enugu West (2007 to 2015), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi from Enugu North (2015 to 2023), thus setting the stage for Enugu East’s return to the Lion Building through Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in 2023.”
Speakers at the event included Rt. Hon. Sunday Udeh-Okoye (former PDP National Youth Leader and National Secretary); Igwe Kingsley Okeke (Traditional Ruler of Ogboli Ohaja Autonomous Community, Awgu LGA); Engr. Luke Mmamel (former Commissioner for Transport); Hon. Chima Obieze (Member representing Ezeagu State Constituency); Engr. Jude Asogwa (Nsukka LGA Chairman); Hon. Nkechi Omeje-Ogbu (former State Assembly member); and Hon. Henrich Okenwa (former Nkanu West LGA Chairman).
They affirmed that support for Governor Mbah transcends political, zonal, and religious lines.
Among the achievements cited were:
- Ongoing construction of 260 Smart Green Schools totaling 6,500 classrooms, 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres (3,300 beds).
- Development of 260 farm estates, each covering 200 hectares.
- Increase in water production from 2 million to 120 million litres daily.
- Completion of the 5,000-capacity Enugu International Conference Centre.
- Ongoing rehabilitation of Hotel Presidential and Nigergas.
- Resuscitation of Sunrise Flour Mills and United Enugu Palm Products Ltd.
- Ongoing construction of over 800 km of roads across urban and rural areas.
- Launch of the New Enugu City and a mega asphalt plant.
- Establishment of Enugu Air with three aircraft.
- Building of five mega modern transport terminals.
- Acquisition of 200 CNG BRT buses.
- Creation of the Nortra Tractor Assembly Plant and Service Centre.
- Construction of a 300-bed Enugu International Hospital and a 5-star Conference Hotel, both to be completed before year-end.
In the area of security, the group highlighted:
- Ban on illegal sit-at-home orders.
- Establishment of a Command and Control Centre.
- Installation of AI-enabled surveillance cameras across the state.
- Deployment of a Distress Response Squad with over 150 security vehicles, all equipped with advanced camera systems.
The Enugu State Patriots concluded by expressing confidence that the people would rally behind Governor Mbah in 2027, not because of party affiliation, but because of proven results and visionary leadership.
