In a disturbing development, activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has reportedly been assaulted by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and taken to an undisclosed location.
According to a post shared on his official Facebook page, Sowore alleged that at about 6:00 AM on Thursday, a police team led by a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit forcibly entered his detention cell at the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja.
The operatives were said to have violently broken into the cell, broke Sowore’s right hand, and subsequently moved him to an undisclosed location. No official statement from the police had been released as of the time of filing this report.

Sowore, the publisher of Sahara Reporters and a vocal critic of successive governments, has faced multiple arrests and detentions since 2019 over various activism-related charges.
The latest incident has sparked outrage among human rights advocates and civil society groups who have called for his immediate release and demanded an investigation into the alleged assault.
More details are expected to emerge as the situation develops.
