The Enugu East Local Government has embarked on a groundbreaking initiative, flagging off over 5.6km of road construction projects across two communities in the council area. The ceremony commenced at Eziama Nike community in Mbulu Owehe ward, where a 1.8km road project was flagged off, marking a historic milestone as the community’s first-ever asphalt road project.
This development has brought immense joy to the community, with the Community Chairman, Hon. Onyeka Okolo, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Chairman for his visionary leadership and numerous achievements.
He noted, “Today is the beginning of a new dawn in Eziama Nike community. Eziama Nike, for the first time in its existence, is today witnessing the construction of an asphalt road, after several years of horrible experience of bad roads and its attendant effects, but to the glory of God, the story has changed today.”
He also thanked the Governor of Enugu State for his impactful projects, citing the Enugu Smart Green School project that has benefited the community.
The Leader of Enugu East Legislative Council, Hon. Obumneme Eke, commended the Executive Chairman for prioritizing the needs of Eziama Nike community, assuring him of the continuous support of the entire people of Mbulu Owehe ward. The contractor handling the project, Engr. Ali of Tonimore Engineering Associates Ltd, expressed gratitude to Enugu East Local Government for the opportunity and assured that the project will be delivered on time and with the highest quality standard.
The Executive Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Engr. Pst. Beloved-Dan Obi Anike, reiterated his administration’s commitment to serving the people. “We are here to reassure our people that our promise is our bond. We are like a pencil in your hands, and whatever you have in mind or wish to happen in your communities, we’re willing vessels to make it happen in Nike land.”
He emphasized that governance in Enugu State is on the rise under Governor Peter Mbah and that their efforts are aimed at complementing the governor’s work.

In a related development, a jubilant crowd welcomed the Executive Chairman to Ibagwa Nike community, where another road project measuring 3.8km, including many internal roads, was flagged off. Speaking at the event, Hon. Chinonso Silas Ugwu, the BOT Chairman of Ibagwa Nike community, welcomed the council boss and expressed the community’s appreciation for his leadership.
Barr. Uche Mbaeke, Secretary of Enugu East Local Government and an illustrious son of the community, commended the Mayor for his numerous projects and programs that have positively impacted the lives of the people, not just in Ibagwa Nike but in the entire Enugu East LGA. He noted that just as many things were happening for the first time in the state, a lot were also happening for the first time in the council area, and these programs and initiatives were the brainchild of the Executive Chairman. He cited the Greater Tomorrow Scholarship Scheme, the two Hilux vehicles assigned to the Deputy and Secretary of the Local Government, and the recent flag-off of the 3.8km road project, describing it as a display of great capacity for a Local Government Chairman. He called on the people to continue praying for the Mayor as he continues his assignment in Enugu East LGA.
The Executive Chairman thanked the community for their support, stating, “I thank you for your support; your support is overwhelming. I want to assure you that every opportunity and resource we have at our disposal, we will translate it into good dividends for our people.” He implored the people to continue supporting the administration of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah.
The Traditional Ruler of Ibagwa Nike autonomous community, HRH Igwe Dr. Emmanuel Ugwu, thanked the Mayor for his visionary leadership and assured him of the community’s genuine commitment to his administration. Ibagwa Nike community, part of Ibagwa/Edem ward, has suffered from bad roads in the past few years, but the recent development has brought renewed hope to the community.
