Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has launched a new era in Enugu State’s transportation sector with the debut of the Enugu State Transport Management System, featuring five ultra-modern bus terminals and a fleet of eco-friendly city buses.

The newly commissioned terminals, sited at Holy Ghost, Nsukka, Abakpa, and Garki, were inaugurated alongside 100 CNG-powered buses—part of the 200 units slated for deployment under the scheme.

In a bold move to strengthen local industry, the state government partnered with ANAMMCO Vehicle Company to remanufacture 50 decommissioned buses from the defunct Coal City Shuttle Service, giving them a second life on Enugu’s roads.

Speaking at the formal handover of two new pickup trucks to the Enugu State Ministry of Transport on Monday, Benneth Ejindu, Chief of Operations at ANAMMCO Motors, praised the governor’s vision for revolutionizing the transport system. He revealed that 50 buses were restored to complement the CNG fleet acquired by the state.

“These buses, which initially arrived at ANAMMCO in scrap condition, were restored to state-of-the-art operational standards,” Ejindu explained. “The process showcased ANAMMCO’s technical capacity and commitment to supporting Enugu State’s transportation development.”

Ejindu further disclosed that the restoration was carried out in collaboration with China’s Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd, and aligned with Governor Mbah’s wider economic plan to grow Enugu’s economy to $30 billion through industrialization, infrastructure expansion, job creation, and human capital development.

Also speaking, Uche Okeke, Executive Director of Corporate Services at ANAMMCO Motors, noted that as part of its support, the company donated two brand-new pickup trucks to the Enugu State Ministry of Transport.

“These pickups will serve a vital role in ensuring proper oversight, operational efficiency, and a great customer experience for passengers across the transport network,” Okeke stated.

The first batch of buses for the scheme was supplied by Zhongtong Buses of Asia, while ANAMMCO’s rebuilt units helped reduce costs, create local jobs, and provide hands-on technical training for Enugu youths.

“With this project, the Governor breathed new life into the state’s mass transit infrastructure, strengthened local economic activity, and enhanced the technical skills of our workforce while building the capacity of Enugu youths in the automotive industry,” the company added.

Responding on behalf of the state government, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Obi Ozor, represented by Mrs Iphie Ugonabo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transport, commended ANAMMCO Motors for the donation of the two pickup trucks.

Speaking in a dual capacity, Ugonabo assured ANAMMCO of a long-term partnership and pledged an enabling environment for transport businesses to thrive in the state.

“Governor Mbah’s strategic integration of ANAMMCO into the new Enugu transport management system reflects his policy direction of engaging indigenous firms in delivering projects at supersonic speed to benefit the people of Enugu,” Ugonabo stated.

She recalled that just days earlier, the governor inaugurated five ultra-modern transport terminals across the state in line with his integrated blueprint for a modern and multimodal transport ecosystem.
