The Agulu Youth Development Committee has issued a stern warning to politicians campaigning in the community, cautioning them against making derogatory remarks about former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
In a statement signed by the Chairman, Maduagwu Eric-Kenny O., and Secretary, Egoh Chamberlain, on August 15, 2025, the youths expressed concern over what they described as “deliberate mockery and provocation” of Obi by some politicians seeking votes in Agulu.
“The greatest misfortune that can befall a people is to stand idly by—whether through ignorance or complacency—while a few individuals tarnish the image of their most respected figure. Sadly, this is what we now witness from certain desperate politicians who expend their energies on unfounded attacks against Mr. Peter Obi,” the statement read.
The youths noted that many of the same politicians attacking Obi had, in the past, been direct beneficiaries of his generosity and support. “This conduct is especially shameful given that many of them have been direct beneficiaries of Mr. Obi’s generosity and support,” they added.
Emphasizing Obi’s reputation, both locally and internationally, the group stated:
“Let it be clearly understood: The name Peter Obi commands an enviable place not only in Nigerian politics but also on the global stage. We will neither keep silent nor allow anyone—regardless of position or influence—to diminish it.”
They further issued a caution to political actors:
“Any politician visiting Agulu for any purpose must refrain from making derogatory or disparaging remarks about our dear brother, Mr. Peter Obi.”
Warning of consequences, the youths vowed that any further attempt to malign Obi on Agulu soil would be met with “organized, peaceful but resolute resistance.”
“As others guard their titles of Senator or Honourable with pride, we in Agulu cherish and protect the name Peter Obi—an identity that opens doors for us across Nigeria and beyond. We will defend it without compromise,” the statement concluded.
