Fidelity Advert
Peter Obi on UTME

Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has condemned the brutal killing of 13 worshippers in a mosque in Katsina State, describing the incident as another needless bloodletting that underscores Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.

Obi, who recently commended security agencies for improved performance in tackling terrorism, expressed shock at the news from Unguwan Mantau in Mulumfasi Local Government Area of Katsina State.

“The killing of innocent souls is unacceptable, even more so when it involves people who had gone to worship their Creator,” Obi said.

He lamented that the attack, coming shortly after the arrest of key terrorist elements, shows how fragile security remains across the country. According to him, the incident “highlights, once again, the extent to which human life has been debased in our society.”

The former governor stressed that without addressing Nigeria’s deep-rooted social challenges, particularly unemployment and multidimensional poverty, such tragedies will persist.

“So long as we fail to address crucial social challenges such as unemployment, and so long as we continue to operate a system that drives more people into multidimensional poverty, we will continue to experience these ugly consequences,” he warned.

Obi extended his sympathies to the victims’ families and the Muslim community in Katsina. “My condolences go to the immediate families of those killed at the mosque, and to the entire worshipping community of Unguwan Mantau in Mulumfasi Local Government Area of Katsina State,” he added.

The attack has once again drawn attention to the urgent need for holistic security reforms, alongside policies aimed at tackling poverty and creating jobs as part of Nigeria’s fight against terrorism.
