The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate cases of child defilement and secured medical evidence to prosecute them.

The cases, transferred to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), are scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday, stressing the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.

According to him, the first case, transferred from CPS Onitsha on August 8, involved one Emmanuel Sampson, a resident of Odoakpu, Onitsha. Sampson allegedly lured his neighbour’s 8-year-old daughter under the pretence of giving her food before defiling her.

In a similar incident, on August 14, a case was transferred from the 3-3 Division in which a 13-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by a security guard in a housing estate. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as ThankGod Damian, tricked the teenager into an uncompleted building where he forcefully assaulted her.

Ikenga said: “The Command has secured medical evidence to prove the suspects’ culpability and will charge the cases to court on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.”

He further urged parents and guardians to be more vigilant and promptly report any suspected cases to the nearest police formation for swift action.
