After successfully commissioning projects for 16 days in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), a phase that ended on July 3, 2025, the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has begun another round of commissioning and flag-offs.
On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Wike commissioned the fully rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at the Lower Usuma Dam in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant, Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister said Wike will also flag off the construction and expansion of water supply projects to satellite towns across the FCT. The exercise begins tomorrow, Wednesday, with Lot 1 in Bwari Township, Bwari Area Council.
On Thursday, Lot 2, covering Karu town and its environs in Abuja Municipal Area Council, will also be flagged off.
It will be recalled that during the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project on June 16, 2025, Wike disclosed that the FCT Administration had signed a new agreement during President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 visit to China. The agreement, he explained, was targeted at extending water supply to satellite communities, including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu.
He said at the time: “Procurement processes for those extensions are near completion, with promises of timely delivery.”
