The Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA) has announced the suspension of its monthly clean-up exercise for August, originally scheduled for Saturday, August 30, 2025.

The agency said the decision was informed by the ongoing 2025 Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), which is holding in Enugu and expected to conclude that weekend.

In a statement issued yesterday in Enugu, Head of Public Relations, Joshua Ozioko, said the suspension was to avoid disruptions during the high-profile national gathering, which has drawn thousands of delegates and visitors to the state.

“While the exercise will not hold, ESWAMA urges all residents of Enugu to maintain a clean and healthy environment before, during, and after the NBA Conference, in order to sustain our enviable reputation as one of the cleanest states in Nigeria,” Ozioko said.

The statement further noted that enforcement against environmental offences remains in effect. According to the agency, these offences include illegal dumping of refuse, disposal of waste outside the approved hours of 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., scavenging around dumpsites, and throwing litter from moving vehicles or tricycles.

ESWAMA also appealed to residents to ensure prompt payment of sanitation rates through designated e-ticketing agents, warning that defaulters would face penalties.

The authority urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support its ongoing efforts to keep Enugu clean.
