The Enugu State Police Command says it has recorded fresh breakthroughs in its ongoing clampdown on violent crimes and cultism, with the arrest of six suspects in separate operations across the state. Firearms, drugs and other incriminating items were also recovered.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, “the arrests were made between August 19 and 22, 2025, by operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad and personnel of the Abakpa Division, with support from the Neighbourhood Watch Group.
“On August 22, at about 5:00 a.m., four young men identified as Samuel Chisom Okpubo (23), Steven Agwu (26), Elijah Umah (27), and Ifenre Ifebuche (22), were arrested. Items recovered from them included a firearm, one expended cartridge, substances suspected to be methamphetamine (popularly called Mkpuru-miri), and other exhibits.”
Their arrest, the statement added, “followed the confession of Uzor Okwudili (23), earlier apprehended by Abakpa Division operatives for cultism, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that two of the suspects are members of the Black Axe Confraternity, while the others confessed to belonging to the Vikings Confraternity.
“In a related development, on August 19, 2025, at about 6:30 p.m., police operatives working with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group stormed Ogor-Affa in Udi LGA and arrested Emehelu Nichodemus a.k.a. “SP Fado” (48). A locally made pistol was recovered from him, and he also confessed to being a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.”
Commenting on the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to rid the state of violent criminals.
He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and law-abiding, while promptly reporting suspicious persons or activities to the Police.
“We are determined to rid Enugu State of criminal elements. I urge citizens to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and promptly report suspected criminals and their activities to the nearest Police Station, or through the Command’s hotlines,” Giwa said.
Ndukwe listed the emergency lines as 08032003702, 08086671202, as well as the State Command-and-Control Centre lines 112, 09134666668, and 09134448093.
