The Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Rt. Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha, has raised concerns over the lack of office accommodation for key officials of the ministry, including herself, promising that efforts will be expedited to complete the new National Directorate of Employment (NDE) building.
Speaking during an inspection of the NDE building in Abuja, Onyejeocha lamented that even the Minister of State has no designated office at the moment.
“This is the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and right now, even the Minister of State doesn’t have an office,” she said. “The place I am staying currently—the Ministry of Aviation Permanent Secretary—has been allocated that space. But where do I go? So, we have to stay there.”
She further explained that the office allocated to the Minister is on the seventh floor of the ministry’s headquarters, which has not yet been completed.
“Even the Minister’s office, they said, has to be on the seventh floor. That seventh floor has not been completed; it’s not even ready, and it won’t be ready in the next couple of months,” Onyejeocha added.
The minister, however, expressed optimism that the NDE building would soon provide a lasting solution, stressing the urgency of its completion.
“I believe we should put all our energy into this NDE building and make sure it is completed with the speed of light, so that those who do not have offices will be able to move in here and do their work,” she said.
