The Enugu State Police Command says it has intensified its clampdown on violent crimes, leading to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of firearms, a motorcycle, solar panels, and other incriminating exhibits in separate operations across the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the arrests and seizures, noting that they were part of the proactive measures being sustained by the police to rid the state of armed robbery and other violent crimes.

According to the statement, in the early hours of August 20, 2025, operatives attached to the Agbani Area Command arrested one Okafor Chukwuka, a 28-year-old male, and recovered a locally made double-barrel gun from him. Preliminary investigations, the police said, linked the suspect to an armed robbery incident that occurred about two weeks earlier in Nara Unataeze, Nkanu East Local Government Area, during which a motorcycle was snatched at gunpoint.

Similarly, on August 18, 2025, at about 9:00 a.m., operatives from the Udenu Police Division apprehended two male suspects, Emeka Odo (45) and Ugochukwu Eze (35), in Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area. During interrogation, Odo confessed to having conspired with an accomplice, currently at large, to rob a motorcyclist of his motorcycle on August 7, 2025, around 8:30 p.m. He further admitted that he contacted Eze to purchase the stolen motorcycle.

Items recovered from the suspects include:

  • One stolen motorcycle
  • One locally fabricated cut-to-size gun
  • One live cartridge
  • One battle axe
  • A cutlass
  • Three solar panels
  • One solar battery
  • One solar light
  • An object suspected to be a charm

The police confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the Command’s determination to stamp out criminality in Enugu State. “We remain unwavering in our resolve to rid the state of unrepentant criminals,” he assured, while urging residents to support security agencies. “Citizens should continue to provide timely and credible information to aid proactive crime prevention and effective policing,” he added.
