President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reversed recent management changes at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), recalling the Director-General, Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, and the Executive Director of News, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, to complete their tenures.
Dembos, who was appointed as NTA Director-General in October 2023, will now return to the helm of the state-owned broadcaster to complete his three-year tenure. Adewuyi, appointed in 2024, will similarly resume as Executive Director of News until the end of his tenure in 2027.
The new directive sets aside previously announced appointments of a new director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.
Confirming the decision in a statement on Tuesday, Presidential Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the move was to ensure continuity and stability in the leadership of the network.
“President Tinubu has directed the recall of Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos, the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, to complete his tenure. Similarly, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News, has also been asked to return and complete his tenure which ends in 2027,” Onanuga stated.
The recall effectively restores the previous management structure at the NTA and underscores the President’s preference for sustaining existing leadership until their terms are completed.
