The Senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District, Ahmed Wadada, has officially rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking another high-profile defection from the opposition to the ruling party.
Wadada, who won the 2023 senatorial election under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), had previously been a member of the APC before leaving to pursue his ambition.
Announcing his return in a letter dated Tuesday and addressed to the APC Chairman of Tudun Kofa Ward, Keffi Local Government Area, the Senator explained that his decision followed careful reflection and a desire to contribute meaningfully to the growth and success of the APC. The letter was titled: “Notification of My Return to the All Progressives Congress.”
Wadada’s move had been widely anticipated after his recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during which he hinted at plans to return to the ruling party. Barely a week after the visit, he resigned from the SDP.
In his resignation letter to the SDP chairman in Tudun Kofa Ward, the lawmaker cited internal conflicts within the party as the main reason for his exit.
“I am writing to inform you of my decision to resign as a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), effective immediately,” the letter read.
“This decision has not been taken lightly, but I feel compelled to do so due to the lingering internal crisis that has plagued our party for some time. As you are aware, these internal conflicts have led to serious divisions and litigations within the party. I appreciate the opportunities given to me while being a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and I am grateful for the experiences and relationships built. However, I feel it is time for me to move on and explore new avenues.”
Wadada, a close ally of President Tinubu, is also reported to be eyeing the Nasarawa governorship seat in 2027.
