AIF Media has raised alarm over what it described as a dangerous trend in Anambra State politics that must not be allowed to continue.
According to the report, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, through his Commissioner for Local Government, allegedly ordered traditional rulers (ndi Igwe) and Presidents-General (PGs) across the state to boycott the burial ceremony of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu’s stepmother, which held today at Osumenyi.
The APC governorship candidate, Ukachukwu, had invited several traditional rulers and community leaders to the burial ceremony. However, the Commissioner for Local Government reportedly threatened them with removal if they attended the event.
“He threatened to sack any of the traditional rulers or PGs who attends the event,” the report claimed.
The development has been described as “unacceptable” and one that “must be condemned by all lovers of democracy.”
Observers recalled that in January 2024, the Igwe of Ojoto and the Igwe of Neni were suspended after conferring a chieftaincy title on the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.
Critics have therefore warned Governor Soludo not to “turn Anambra into North Korea where the rights of citizens and freedom of association are determined by government.”
“This has shown that Soludo is afraid of November 8th. He no longer feels safe and sadly does not know those who are still with him,” the report added.
It further urged ndi Igwe and PGs not to be deterred by the threats, but to join forces with the APC candidate in “voting out what it described as an incompetent administration on November 8th.”
