Enugu Police Commissioner CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa,

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested six male suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations for alleged involvement in conspiracy, armed robbery, fraud, and cultism. The operations also led to the recovery of two minibuses, a motorcycle, eleven bank ATM cards, a laptop, and other incriminating items.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, September 5, 2025, noting that the arrests were made between August 25 and September 4, 2025.

“Between 25th August and 4th September 2025, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested three suspects: John Joseph, a.k.a. ‘Musa’ (34), Kingsley Essien Ubong (40), and Ogbonna Kelvin (43),” the statement said.

According to the police, one Daihatsu Hijet minibus (Chassis No. S321V 0112161) and a Kymstone motorcycle (Chassis No. LKIPCJL1XM1000263), both without registration or engine numbers, were recovered from the suspects. Their arrest followed the confession of one Chinedu Onwuka, who was arrested earlier in May 2025 for a similar offence, arraigned, and remanded.

In a related operation on September 2, 2025, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad apprehended 38-year-old Sunday Ebuka Egbuaba, a suspected member of the Junior Vikings Confraternity. A search of his residence led to the recovery of one HP laptop, allegedly stolen from a victim. His arrest came after the confession of another cultist, 23-year-old Nnaji Ifeanyi, a Black Axe member under investigation for conspiracy, burglary, stealing, and cultism.

Similarly, on August 30, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m., police operatives attached to the Nsukka Urban Division rescued and arrested one Friday Nwaomege (25) from a mob along Enugu Road, Nsukka. Nwaomege, along with two accomplices who are still at large, was said to have snatched a bank ATM card from a male victim. He sustained mob-inflicted injuries before being rescued by police, treated, and placed in custody.

Recovered from him were twelve ATM cards belonging to different banks and an ENTRACO-branded Daihatsu Hijet minibus (Reg. No. ENU 902 YS, Fleet No. R-04/12309), allegedly used for the operation but damaged by the mob during the incident.

Police assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members and recover more exhibits. “The suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations,” SP Ndukwe confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ridding Enugu of crime and criminal elements. He urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to continue supporting the police in their efforts to keep the state safe.
