…Pledges Support Against Energy Theft

The Acting Zonal Director of the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Aisha Abubakar, Esq., has commended Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) for its improved service delivery across Enugu State and its prompt response to fault clearing.

Mainpower, a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC), oversees electricity distribution within Enugu State.

The commendation came during a courtesy visit to the EFCC Enugu Command by Dr. Ernest Mupwaya, Managing Director of Mainpower, who led his management team to strengthen collaboration and foster strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in the company’s franchise area.

During the visit, Dr. Mupwaya applauded the EFCC for its efforts in fighting economic crimes while outlining challenges confronting the electricity sector. These, he said, include habitual non-payment of bills, energy theft, meter bypass, illegal connections, and vandalism—issues he described as clear cases of economic sabotage.

He appealed for the EFCC’s intervention in tackling the menace.
According to him:
“These acts of sabotage not only hurt the company but also undermine the overall electricity supply chain. We believe the EFCC’s support will be pivotal in addressing them.”

In her response, Abubakar assured Mainpower of the Commission’s readiness to collaborate, particularly in addressing acts of economic sabotage that impede power distribution.

She further praised the company for the noticeable progress in electricity supply within Enugu State.
Her words:
“We commend Mainpower for the visible improvement in service delivery across the state. We encourage you to sustain this performance and continue to meet the expectations of electricity consumers.”

Dr. Mupwaya was accompanied on the visit by Engr. Ikenna Akabogu, Chief Commercial Officer; Engr. Chimezie Chukwu, Chief Technical Officer; and Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications.
