The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, will on Thursday commission two completed roads and flag off 12 new road construction projects as well as solar lighting installations across Abuja, under the Light Up Abuja Programme.

The announcement was made in a statement on Monday by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, who said the commissioning and groundbreaking events would run between September 18 and October 16, 2025.

“Two road projects will be commissioned while 14 new projects will be flagged off by the Honourable Minister within one month, beginning this Thursday,” Olayinka said.

According to him, the Minister will commission the access roads in Sector Centre B by Dakibiyu District and the newly constructed Esther Bali Street (ILS 11) and Kez Udezue Street (MAR 24) in Mabushi District.

Projects Under Light Up Abuja

Highlighting the new projects, Olayinka explained that one of the flagship initiatives is the procurement of integrated hybrid solar lighting for major districts and expressways in the FCT.

The Lot 1 areas will cover Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse, Central Business District (CBD), and Airport Expressway, while Lot 2 will include Katampe, Garki I and II, Mabushi, Gudu, Jabi, and Katampe Extension.

Major Road Projects to Commence

Other projects to be flagged off include:

  • Full scope development of Arterial Road N1 from Wuye District to Ring Road II.
  • Construction of Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III.
  • Provision of access road to the Mabushi Bus Terminal.
  • Phase II of Arterial N20 (Solomon Lar Way) linking Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Airport Expressway.
  • Provision of access road to the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates project in Karsana West.
  • Construction of access road bypassing the Airport Second Runway with a four-span bridge.

Others include the Kaura District Fire Service access road and erosion control, transit way (2) linking Central Area to Wuse with two bridges, the Mohammed Isa Road Extension in Asokoro, rehabilitation of 15km old Keffi Road from Kado Village to Dei-Dei Junction, and provision of engineering infrastructure for outstanding layouts in Guzape A09 Lots I and II.

Also slated is the construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) from Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo Way) to N20 (Wole Soyinka Way), alongside the design and construction of official residences for Heads of Federal Courts, including the President of the Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, the Chief Judge of the FCT, and the President of the Industrial Court.

Previous Projects

The statement recalled that just four weeks ago, Wike flagged off the expansion of water supply to satellite towns, beginning with Bwari Township and Karu Town. Two weeks ago, he also inaugurated new projects including a multi-purpose sports centre in Kafe District, a new Magistrate Court complex in Jabi, and the emergency reconstruction of Karu Road from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction.

Olayinka emphasized that the initiatives demonstrate Wike’s commitment to transforming Abuja’s infrastructure.

“These projects underline the Minister’s determination to fast-track infrastructural development, expand access to public services, and modernize the capital city,” he said.
